A TRIO of Morpeth teenagers will get the chance to display their talents on the big stage next week.

Laura Brown, Lauren Caisley and Ivy Chui may also perform in the West End after taking part in the regional finals of a competition.

The King Edward VI School pupils are among 45 young people from the Newcastle and Sunderland Stagecoach groups picked to take part in its production of Billy Elliot the Musical in Newcastle.

A video of the Billy Elliot Supercast 2011 during rehearsals was sent to the Billy Youth Theatre countrywide scheme and the judges put them through to the northern area showcase at the Sunderland Empire, which took place on Saturday.

The cast performed eight scenes and are keeping their fingers crossed as the winners will be invited to take part in the Billy Youth Theatre West End Gala in London.

Year 12 student Lauren said: “We were delighted to be selected for the supercast as we probably won’t do anything like this again as part of Stagecoach. A lot of time and effort has gone into the production and it has involved all the Newcastle and Sunderland groups.

“The rehearsals have been intense, but it has been worth it and we were really excited to find out that we made the northern showcase.

“It was a fantastic experience for all of us to perform at the Sunderland Empire, it is something that we will remember forever.

“Now we can’t wait to perform the show in full in Newcastle.”

Year 9 student Ivy, Laura, who is in Year 10, and Lauren have also performed together in other shows, including Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Sunderland Empire and the Whitley Bay Playhouse and a concert for PC David Rathband’s Blue Lamp Foundation at Newcastle Civic Centre.

The Newcastle shows will take place at The People’s Theatre between Tuesday and Friday, June 3. There will be a performance on each day at 7.30pm, plus a matinee on the Friday at 2.30pm.
