An amateur dramatics society is on the hunt for young hopefuls to play leading roles in its upcoming production of Oliver!
Ponteland Repertory Society has announced that its production later this year will be Lionel Bart’s 1960 musical Oliver!

And it still needs to find two actors for leading roles in the show, based on the 1838 Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist. The search is on for youngsters to play the parts of Oliver and the Artful Dodger, as well as workhouse orphans and Fagin’s gang.
A workshop and auditions will take place on Sunday, July 12, at 10am, at Ponteland Memorial Hall. Would-be stars are invited to attend.
Production director Carole Davies said: “This is a slight change from our original plan, but we want the first production of the season to be one which has a large cast and provides parts for all the members of our youth theatre, the Preppies, as well as adults in the main society.
“We know that Oliver! is a much-loved and very popular musical, and it will be just what our audiences need to cheer the chilly dark days of November.
“The show features the fantastic characters of Fagin, Nancy, Bill Sykes, Mr Bumble and more, but for now, we are keen to hear from boys between the ages of nine and 14 who would like to take part.”
The show runs from Wednesday, November 25, to Saturday, November 28.
Rehearsals start at the beginning of September, but successful youngsters will be invited to take part in other activities over the summer.
Any potential Olivers, Artful Dodgers or other boys should contact Ms Davies to find out more by emailing her at firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 01661 871161.
Adult auditions will be held at the beginning of September, and potential new members will be welcome.
