Luxury new boutique hotel and restaurant on the Northumberland coast finally set for official opening
A new jewel in Northumberland’s coastal crown is open for bookings and preparing to welcome guests for the very best of good times.
The Whittling House is a stylish new 10-bedroom boutique hotel and restaurant nestled in the heart of Alnmouth.
A full and extravagant refit was completed towards the end of October, just days before the second national lockdown put plans for an official opening on pause.
But as May 17 approaches – the date when indoor hospitality will be allowed once again in England – bookings are filling up from those eager to be among the first to sample its charms.
General manager, Lottie Haylock, said: “Having the hotel and restaurant all ready, but being unable to welcome guests inside has been really tough, but we’ve been delighted to hear from so many people who are excited about bringing their loved ones to The Whittling House as soon as restrictions allow.”
During lockdown, special takeaway menus have offered a taste of what’s to come but Lottie and her team are very much looking forward to being able to offer guests the full indulgent experience in the coming days.
She said: “The takeaway menus and special takeaway boxes have proved popular during lockdown, but of course they’re no substitute for being served and looked after in lovely surroundings.
“Our focus is to make sure people have a relaxing but special experience when they visit us - they’ve been waiting a long time to come and visit The Whittling House and all the staff can’t wait to welcome them!”
The Whittling House is a joint project between renowned chef and restaurant owner, Richard Sim, who runs the Michelin Guide-featured Potted Lobster in Bamburgh, and Kelso-based entrepreneur, Tom Leslie.
Tom said: “It has been an interesting experience realising our ambitions to bring a new luxury hotel and restaurant to Alnmouth during a global pandemic, but we’re very proud of what we’ve achieved and grateful to the whole team who made it possible.”
Richard added: “Despite the obvious challenges of the past few months, the commitment and enthusiasm of the team has never wavered and we’re all absolutely delighted – and more than a little bit excited – to be ready for our official opening.”
