The Acklington scheme, named Southfields, is being developed on the former Pearson’s Garage site by Surgo Construction for Buchanan Estates.

The land was once occupied by RAF Acklington, home to Southfields aerodrome, which closed in 1975.

The £5million scheme, created by architects Blake Hopkinson, comprises two-bedroom bungalows, three-bedroom semis houses, four-bedroom semis and four and five-bedroom detached homes, all arranged within a courtyard setting.

Prices range from £200,000 to £470,000.

Buchanan Estates has appointed WalkersXchange Estate Agents to market the scheme.

Julie Walker, head of sales at WalkersXchange, said: “The housing market in Northumberland is incredible at the moment. There is absolutely no slowdown whatsoever. I cannot list new properties quickly enough, in fact new property coming to the market is going under offer within two to three days, if not sooner!

“I think many people, especially the over 50s, are making life-changing decisions because of the pandemic and many want to get out of towns and cities to benefit from more space, less congestion and room to breathe some fresher air. That is particularly the case for those living in the south.

“It is very much a vendor’s market with many agents reporting that existing property is often selling for more than the asking price, and although with new build the price is fixed, I would still recommend anyone thinking of moving home to act quickly, because demand is outstripping supply in this part of the world at the present time.”

Buchanan director William Davies explained: “We have chosen the location of Southfields extremely carefully. We understand what people want after the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and our development offers the best of rural living with all local amenities close by and is well located for accessing local centres and main roads.

“Acklington also has a mainline railway station and frequent bus services to Alnwick, Berwick and Newcastle, so is the perfect spot for any new families, retirees or those returning the area.”
