New bar set to open in Whitley Bay
The three-man team behind Square and Compass say it would breathe life into an area of the town they say is “very much in need of investment”.
The micro bar would be located in the former Jam Gallery unit at the end of Park View.

Hide AdLast year, Park View was named in a Guardian list featuring 10 of the coolest shopping districts on Earth alongside streets in Paris, Hamburg and Toronto.
In its successful application, NE Safety Group LTD said the nightspot would be a “calm and welcoming establishment”.
“Our ethos will be to promote the joys and diversity of local produce, supporting local businesses and employment,” stated the application.
“Our style will be a smart urban/industrial style with local nods to the past.”

Hide AdDevelopers said the venue would enjoy a full refurbishment ahead of opening.
Despite this concerned residents raised fears about noise and nuisance.
Ward councillor John O’Shea attended the meeting of the Licensing Committee to present objections to the scheme.
But the committee agreed the application changing the timing of the sale of alcohol to 11am to 10.30pm, initially the applicants wanted to sell alcohol until 11pm.

Hide AdAfter the meeting Coun O’Shea said: “I’m very disappointed that the Committee granted the license but pleased that they modified the drinking hours to finish at 10.30pm in line with similar pubs/cafe’s in the locality.
“Local residents who attended the meeting were very concerned about this application and presented their objections with real passion.”
