Nearly 200,000 in Northumberland have now had virus jab

A quarter of people aged 45 and over in Northumberland have now received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine, new figures reveal.

NHS data shows 74,208 people had received both jabs by April 25 – 27% of over-16s in the area.

Of those to have received both jabs, 64,467 were 45 and over – 37% of the age group – and 9,741 people aged between 16 and 44 have now received both doses.

The figures show 192,947 people in the area have received at least one jab – 71% of those aged 16 and over.

The data also reveals an area by area variation in coverage for those receiving at one dose of the vaccine.

The proportion of people prioritised for vaccinations, such as those aged 42 and over, is one factor that could affect vaccine coverage.

The areas with the highest coverage are Longhorsley and Hepscott and Capheaton, with 82.9% of people aged 16 and over given their first dose

Next comes Rothbury and Longframlington with 81%, followed by Morpeth South and West with 79.8%.

The areas with the lowest coverage are Ashington Hirst (60.2%), Blyth Cowpen (61.9%) and Seaton Delaval and Seghill (62.1%).

In England, 11million people had received a second dose of the jab by April 25 – 24% of the over-16 population.

That includes 9.4million people aged 45 and over – 38% of the age group.

In total, 28.2million people had received at least one dose of a vaccine by the same date, covering 62% of people over 16.
