6. Warkworth Castle
Warkworth Castle is a ruined medieval castle towering above the village of Warkworth. The village and castle occupy a loop of the River Coquet. The grounds of the castle and shop are currently open but interior spaces will open on Monday, May 17, in line with government guidelines. 7. Berwick Castle and Ramparts
Berwick Castle was one of the most important fortresses during the Anglo-Scottish Wars, probably built by the Scottish King David about 1124 ans superseded by impressive, mainly Elizabethan town defences, which surround the whole historic town. 8. Dunstanburgh Castle
The magnificent ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle sit on the Northumberland coast. The castle was built at a time when relations between King Edward II and his most powerful baron, Earl Thomas of Lancaster, had become openly hostile. Lancaster began the fortress in 1313. It is open as usual with the exception of the seaward side tower. Advance booking of tickets is essential.
