Abbey service recorded in group’s centenary yearbook

Kirkley WI

Almost all the members of Kirkley WI were able to attend the December meeting, which was a Christmas meal. Best wishes were sent to those from the group who were unable to attend.

The members enjoyed a seasonal meal at lunch time.

During lunch, individuals read the minutes of the previous meeting, which were circulated so that these could be approved.

It was reported that a number of members had attended the last activity of the WI centenary year, which was a service at Hexham Abbey. This would be recorded in the centenary yearbook, which was being complied by the secretary.

Our thanks go to Dorothy for her dedicated work in the compiling of the book.

The president ended the meeting by wishing all the members a peaceful Christmas and she looked forwarded to seeing them in the new year.

The group will hear from speaker Mike Greatbatch on ‘Wherrymen and chain horse lads: transport on the Ouseburn’.

The meeting will be held at St Mary’s Church Hall in Thornhill Road, Ponteland, on Thursday, January 21, at 7.30pm.
