A MORPETH club stalwart received a rare honour during a VIP visit.
Eddy Gebhard, who is Morpeth Lions Club’s oldest member, has received the International President’s I Believe pin in recognition of his service.
The award was presented by Vice District Governor of the organisation John Sutherland, who called in to the Morpeth club during a visit to the region.
The district covers all of Scotland and North East England down to Scarborough so District Governor Alan Deacon, Mr Sutherland and Past District Governor Larry Collins have decided to share the visiting duties.
Mr Sutherland and his wife Denise travelled to the area in their caravan to spend a few days in the county, paying visits to the Morpeth and Alnwick clubs, as well as Ashington Lionesses, during their stay.
The official, who also presented a pin to Morpeth Lions President Dave Wheeler, said: “I am encouraged to hear of all the good work being undertaken by Morpeth Lions Club and the other clubs I have visited.
“I fully intend visiting you next year to celebrate your 40th anniversary and learn more of how you work within your community.”
Mr Wheeler presented Mr Sutherland with the club’s banner.
