Silk Road adventure

LANCASTER Park WI welcomed Kathleen and Harry Gilbert to their March meeting.

Under their trading name of Lens Enchantment, they presented a most professional audio-visual travelogue of their latest holiday adventure, travelling along the Asian continent’s Silk Road.

The Silk Road gets its name from the lucrative Chinese silk trade, although silk is by no means the only item traded. Travellers along this road are many and varied, being students, archeologists, Buddhist monks, soldiers, missionaries, to name but a few.

This was the third presentation given to the WI members by Kathleen and Harry, the first, in March 2009, was entitled The Magic of Morocco, and in March 2010 Postcards from Brazil was shown. All have been given with the same knowledge, enthusiasm and professionalism and have left members with much food for thought when considering their own next holiday. Perhaps there could be a competition and prize for the most adventurous. Watch this space.

The next meeting is on Thursday, April 7 and will be the annual meeting with a surprise treat. All members should attend if possible and any non-members wishing to join will be most welcome.

Meetings take place on the first Thursday of the month at All Saints Primary School in Pinewood Drive, commencing at 7.30pm. Further information can be obtained from Carol Wilkinson on 01670 519102.
