THERE’S been something fishy going on at the River Wansbeck.
Around 50 extra brown trout have been released into the river near Lady’s Walk in Morpeth in a project by the Wansbeck Angling Association.
Money was provided by Morpeth Town Council to help the group to re-stock the river.
As well as giving association members more opportunities, the fish can also be found at the ‘free’ stretch of the river, helping to draw visitors to the area.
Head Bailiff Keith Donnelly said: “We are hopefully going to start putting the fish in on a regular basis. We want to keep stock up and also keep the otters on the river, which obviously like the fish.”
The association is seeking new members. Anyone wishing to join the group can leave their details at Game Fishing Supplies in Morpeth.
