THERE was a surprise in store for Morpeth Rugby Club’s old boys when they spotted themselves in last week’s Herald.
Our Images of Yesteryear picture featured the club’s Men’s Dinner in November 1986.
And when former Club Treasurer Dave Crawford called into the Mitford Road club last week, members were quick to point out his renewed moment in the spotlight.
“The dinner seems a long time ago now,” he said.
“I didn’t see the picture myself until I went to the club and everyone pointed it out. It was quite a pleasant surprise, especially as I looked a little bit younger. My glass was nearly empty though so I must have been ready for another drink.”
Mr Crawford told us that the picture shows, left to right, former player Harry Kennedy, who would later become President of the club, the late David Turnbull, another past President, former team captain at KEVI Nick Robinson, ‘Kippers’ Parsons, Mr Crawford himself, and Mike Brett, who was President of the Northern Rugby Clubs at the time.
