Teams make a splash for charity

TEAMS are being invited to make a fund-raising splash at a Morpeth event in the spring.

Morpeth Lions Club’s ‘LionSwim’ provides participating groups with a lane of the Riverside Leisure Centre pool to themselves for 55 minutes, giving members the opportunity to collect sponsorship money for swimming, in some cases based on the number of lengths they complete.

Half of what they raise goes to the charity or organisation they represent, with the other half going to Morpeth Lions Club to pay for the event with hopefully some left over to assist local needs.

The LionSwim has been popular since it started in 1992 and has raised thousands of pounds. Ten teams have already registered for this year’s event on Saturday, April 9, including a group from Morpeth Town Council.
