A winter leaf lettuce crop in the greenhouse border has retained its sweetness through regular watering but must go soon to free-up space for the tomatoes and chilli peppers.
A group of 10 strawberry plants, potted up some weeks ago, are in flower and the promise of a pre-Wimbledon feast is on course.
The plants will be consigned to composting afterwards because they are entering their third year.
The peach tree is laden with fruits at present, one or two plum-sized, but some have fallen. It’s premature to start thinning them out in a quest for fewer, bigger fruits. Best wait until nature has finished then intervene if necessary.
