It was 100 years ago that Melvin Jones and like-minded colleagues formed the first Lions Club.

This has since grown to become the largest community service club organisation in the world, with more than 1.4 million members.

A Melvin Jones Fellowship is the highest honour a club can bestow and recently Lions District 105NE conferred this honour on Morpeth Lions Club member Dave Wheeler.

Dave was Governor of the District last year and in making the award the current post-holder spoke in praise of his tenure.

There are organisational changes being planned in the district, which meant that Dave had a particularly challenging year. His cabinet colleagues therefore felt it fitting to recognise this with the Fellowship award.

Dave can now be recognised as Past District Governor Dave Wheeler MJF.
