Do you suffer from dry eyes, dry skin, dry mouth or intimate dryness? Michelle Winspear, from Advanced Nutrition in Sanderson Arcade, discusses the powerful orange berry that could help you.
Do your eyes endure itching, dryness, a gritty feeling, watering or redness? If so then you may be suffering from dry eyes, a common problem which affects one in ten UK adults.
Dry eyes have typically been associated with ageing, affecting one in three people aged over 65.
However, they are now becoming common in the younger generation due to modern lifestyles.
Blinking coats the eyes with tears for lubrication so activities in which blinking is reduced to prolong the use of the eyes, such as reading or using screens for long periods, dries the eyes. Approximately a third of people spend nine hours or more in front of a screen, which is a massive 42 per cent increase over the past five years.
Dry eyes can also be caused by other aspects of everyday life, including being in dry, smoky or windy environments, air conditioning and wearing contact lenses, with over 75 per cent of contact lens wearers suffering from dry eyes at some point.
Linda Lusardi, model and actress, takes Omega 7 SBA24 for her dry eyes.
“It’s no exaggeration to say it has been life-changing for me. Sea buckthorn benefits so many other areas of the body that it is now a must in my daily routine,” she said.
Omega 7 SBA24 is a natural product containing sea buckthorn oil derived from the sea buckthorn berry, which is rich in omegas 3, 6, 7 and 9 and carotenes. Carotenes are converted by the body into Vitamin A, which helps to maintain mucous membranes, which line the eyes, skin, mouth, digestive system and urogenital tract.
The health of these delicate membranes can be impacted by factors such as illness, stress, ageing and medication, all of which lead to dryness.
Mucous membrane health can also cause dry mouth, which affects up to 40 per cent of UK adults, digestive complaints, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), colitis, Crohn’s disease, and dry skin conditions, including psoriasis and eczema.
Intimate dryness is a common condition that affects an estimated 40 per cent of women during or after the menopause. This can dramatically impact comfort, confidence and sexual relationships.
A study by Pharma Nord recently took place among 45 women to determine the impact Omega 7 SBA24 has on symptoms.
Participants took Omega 7 SBA24 capsules over a three month period. At the end of the study 86 per cent found an improvement in their symptoms, with 80 per cent recording an improvement half way through the trial.
When choosing an Omega 7 supplement it is important to look out for the SBA24 logo, which is the only formulation used in clinical trials and contains oil from both the pulp and seeds of the sea buckthorn berry.
