Inquiries are at an early stage, however it is now thought that the collision occurred at about 2am today with two people in the van.

It is believed that one of the occupants, an injured man currently receiving treatment in hospital for non-life-threatening injures, walked to a nearby garage in the Fairmoor area of Morpeth where he was given a lift to the Ashington area.

Any witnesses, particularly the motorist who is understood to have given the injured man a lift, or anyone with dash-cam footage are asked to contact police by calling 101 quoting log 329 05/08/18.
