The Environment Agency has given an update this afternoon in relation to its flood alert for the River Wansbeck.
It was issued yesterday following sustained periods of rain over the weekend.
According to the organisation, river levels have fallen this morning but more rain is forecast across the area for this evening – which would cause the river to rise again.
Low lying land and roads may be affected.
The update also includes the following: ‘We are constantly monitoring river levels and will issue any flood warnings if there is a risk of property flooding for this area.
‘The flood gates at Morpeth are currently open, however we are monitoring the situation and we will ensure the gates are closed in good time if required.
‘We have workers on stand-by to clear blockages and operate defences if required.’
