Agony continues as Alnwick still search for their first win of 2017
Alnwick Town are still searching for their first win of 2017, after falling to defeat to their Northumbrian neighbours Blyth Town on Saturday.
The away side had the first chance of the game, Josh Hay playing a great ball across the 6 yard box which was just inches away from Tony Brown sliding in at the far post.

Hide AdGillesphey had Blyth’s first chance after 15 minutes, and he made no mistake. A cross wasn’t cleared far enough, and he hit a half volley which flew into the top corner. No chance for Glasper. 1-0 Blyth.
Alnwick would level 10 minutes later though. The ball fell to Tony Brown 25 yards out, who hit a left foot shot with the outside of hit boot which curled away from the despairing Crook in the Blyth goal to level the score. Two cracking goals from both sides. 1-1.
But the home side were ahead again just a couple of minutes later. The Alnwick offside trap wa breached, allowing David Robinson to run through on goal. Danny Lowes got back to divert his first effort, but Robinson side-footed into the near post. 2-1 Blyth.
A long range punt up field almost caught Crook off guard. The ball took a wicked bounce, but he was able to back peddle enough to tip the ball over the bar and crash into his own net.

Hide AdRiddell had the final chance of the first half, drilling an effort just wide. 2-1 at half time, Alnwick still in the game.
Chris Graham put an effort over the bar at the start of the 2nd half, which would ultimately be Alnwick’s last meaningful chance of the game.
Glasper pulled off a great save from McRoberts, but in the 77th minute he could do nothing to prevent Gary Day sealing the points for the home side from close range.
Neither side created many chances, but Blyth created more than Alnwick and took theirs when they came.
