Air cadets' sporting success
A group of Air Cadets have achieved regional sporting success.
The 404 (Morpeth) Squadron Air Training Corps were the overall Durham and Northumberland wing sports winners for 2015/16. The wing also includes the Tyne & Wear region.
They claimed overall victory in the cross country events. Category success came in the Junior Women and U15 Girls and they were second in the Junior Men section.
Morpeth was ranked number one in swimming as well, with wins in the Junior Boys and Junior Girls and second in Senior Girls.
They were second overall in the athletics competitions. Second place finishes were achieved in the U15 Girls, U15 Boys and Senior Girls categories.
The individuals who performed extremely well included Monet Wendt. And after winning her age group 800m race in the wing competition, she went on to claim victory for the North region in the event at the Corps Championship – the national event.
In addition, Ewan MacDonald was part of a 4x100m relay team that finished fourth in their race.
Squadron Commander, Flight Lieutenant Bob Donothey, said: “I’m very proud of our cadets.
“They put a lot of hard work in and as well as their sporting ability, their fitness levels are very good.”
The squadron parades at its premises in Gas House Lane, Low Stanners, on Monday and Thursday evenings between 7pm and 9.30pm.
