Amanda’s climb bid suffers blow

A MORPETH woman’s ambitious fund-raising drive to support young heart patients has suffered a false start.

Last month, the Herald reported how 20-year-old Amanda Bell was planning a year of gruelling challenges to raise funds for the Children’s Heart Unit Fund at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital after undergoing open-heart surgery herself in May 2010.

First on the list was the Three Peaks Challenge in which Amanda’s friends Nick Logan and Jamie Pattison would climb the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales in just 24 hours on her behalf.

The climb was due to take place on Monday, February 27, but strong winds made it too dangerous.

However, the pair still hope to complete the challenge later this month.
