Anglers overhaul club fees

MEMBERS of the Wansbeck Angling Association voted to reduce their club’s joining and rejoining fees to £10 at the Annual General Meeting held at Guide Post Social Club on Saturday, February 23.

Chairman Doug Graham told the well-attended meeting that it was vital that the club attracted new members.

He said: “We have one of the best trout rivers in the county. We need more members to enjoy it and to be able to buy more fish.

“We are hoping to get a grant from Morpeth Town Council again this year so we can stock the town free stretch. This was a huge success last year with not just local children and adults using the river and catching fish, but a number of fishermen came to enjoy some sport while their other half did the shopping.”

Treasurer Sid Dixey gave the financial report and it was decided to increase the licence by £3 to allow a second stocking to go ahead.

A new secretary James Graham was elected into office and the Chairman thanked all those who had worked so hard for the club. This included the Vice-Chairman Gerry Baty, Head Bailiff Keith Donnelly and his team, his wife Karen the retiring treasurer and the committee.
