Arresting talk at WI

Pegswood/Bothal WI

THE long arm of the law came to Pegswood with Bothal WI, not to arrest anyone, but to give a talk about neighbourhood policing.

Secretary Mrs Pauline Proud welcomed an Acting Sergeant of Northumbria Police. After showing what she had to carry around on duty – padded shirt, handcuffs, baton and radio – we talked about crime prevention. A little bit of awareness and lots of common sense was advised. We also shared our own experiences of being on the wrong end of crime. There were quite a few laughs and it was a very interesting evening.

The winner of the competition for a handbag compact was won by Mrs Jane Mumford and the raffle was won by Mrs Nancy Fowlie. Business included a report by Mrs Alice Herdman about the spring council meeting at Jesmond.

The next meeting is on Tuesday, April 1 at St Margaret’s Church Hall.
