THE President of the Inner Wheel Club of Morpeth, Mrs June Hudspith, welcomed members to the February meeting at the Queen’s Head Hotel and thanked them for coming despite the bitterly cold weather.
After the meal she introduced the speaker, Mrs Cecilia Brown, who is a director of Barnabas Safe and Sound.
Approaching its tenth anniversary, the project continues to grow and has centres in Pegswood, Ashington and Morpeth, each concentrating on a different aspect of the charity’s work.
It caters for people between the ages of 16 to 25 years who are experiencing housing crises or leaving care. Help is given on finding accommodation, running a household and how to organise finances.
All these are necessary skills for achieving independence and leading a more fulfilled life. Mrs Brown said its motto was ‘Roots to grow and wings to fly’.
Barnabas Safe and Sound has liaisons with all churches in the area and organisations such as Morpeth Rotary Club. Mrs Vivien Scott thanked Mrs Brown most warmly for her enlightening and informative talk.
