Councillors are looking to formalise procedures for flooding situations in Ponteland.
A further meeting has taken place with consultant Lynne Dunleavy about setting up a flood resilience plan for the area. Also present was Catherine Wheeldon of the flooding and coastal erosion risk management unit at Northumberland County Council.
Ponteland Town Council started looking into the issue at the end of last year.
Mayor Carl Rawlings said that Ponteland still has some volunteer flood wardens, but a resilience plan would be a useful step because it would provide additional help for the elderly and vulnerable and advice on evacuation.
“I also see this as a directory of who to contact in a flood situation,” he added.
“At the meeting, Lynne told us that she is funded by the Northumbria Community Flooding Partnership, so she would not charge us for her involvement in the development of a flood resilience plan.”
Another meeting will now be held with her to discuss the arrangements for putting together a plan for Ponteland.
