MORPETH bellringers have found a new fan — all the way from Minnesota.
The four-year-old boy was visiting the Morpeth Northumbrian Gathering with his family and picked up a leaflet on Morpeth Clock Tower Bellringers from the Town Hall.
Ringing Master Chris Teasdale’s mother explained to the boy about the tower’s eight bells and spotted him the following morning waiting for the bells to ring. Morpeth Gadgy Alex Swailes told him the story of the Gadgy coming down from the tower to lead the Gathering festivities.
Mr Teasdale said: “The bright-eyed American had been enthusiastically going on about the Clock Tower and the bells all night and was determined to be first in line to hear the bells and see inside the tower. And he did, plus the opportunity to chime the smallest bell very merrily.”
New bellringers are welcome at practices on Wednesdays, at 7.30pm. Contact Mr Teasdale on 01670 515273.
