FORMER SAS soldier turned writer Chris Ryan dropped in at a Morpeth bookshop to meet a brave teenager.
Karl Carter, who lives in Castle Close, was diagnosed with a brain tumour after an eye test noticed unusual swelling on his optic nerve.
It was removed but he has had to deal with intense radiotherapy treatment followed by chemotherapy sessions.
One of the things on his ‘bucket list’ was to meet Mr Ryan and mum Tracey got in touch with Appleby’s Bookshop in Newgate Street to see if owner Tim Wallace could help.
After trying a couple of his contacts, the author agreed to come along yesterday morning and speak to Karl before doing a book signing of his latest novel – Masters of War.
Mr Wallace said: “Chris came over as a really nice bloke. As well as spending a considerable amount of time with Karl, he had time for everyone who wanted to say hello and have a photograph taken with him.”
