A thousand thanks for the help

MORPETH customers have been thanked for their support in a charity fund-raising campaign.

Users of the town’s Leeds Building Society branch have helped to raise £1,600 for Asthma UK by buying pin badges of popular children’s TV character Bagpuss.

The badges were available in branches nationwide last month for a suggested donation of £1.

Asthma UK Corporate Partnerships Executive Ali Young said: “We are grateful that the Leeds Building Society Morpeth branch agreed to sell our Bagpuss pin badges. The popular response to the campaign proves that the saggy old cloth cat remains very popular with people of all ages.

“The £1,600 raised, in Morpeth and throughout the country, will go towards raising vital funds for Asthma UK.”

Leeds Building Society Morpeth Branch Manager Denise Godwin said: “This campaign provided a great opportunity for our staff and customers in Morpeth to raise awareness of this very common condition, whilst raising essential funds towards research and prevention.”
