Apprenticeships increase

APPRENTICESHIP placements in Northumberland have almost doubled in three years.

Berwick MP Sir Alan Beith, whose constituency reaches to north of Morpeth, started campaigning for more places in 2009/10 after figures showed 510 had been awarded in his area in the previous 12 months.

Now the Office of National Statistics has reported that 1,010 placements were awarded in the constituency in the last financial year.

Sir Alan welcomed the report. He said: “Hearing this great news about the rise in number of apprenticeships is very encouraging.”
