A FAMILY fun day at a Morpeth pub has raised £1,000 for a children’s cancer charity.
There was lots of fun at The Electrical Wizard in New Market last month as it hosted a charity auction, including signed football boots from Alan Shearer and signed boxing gloves from Mike Tyson and Nigel Benn.
Customers could also enjoy free curry sampling, a champagne reception, children’s games, face painting and a raffle at the J D Wetherspoon pub, with all money raised from the activities going to Clic Sargent.
And the event was such a success that similar charity days have since been organised at the chain’s pubs in Ashington and Bedlington.
Morpeth event organiser Ashley Graham said: “It went really well and we raised just under £1,000 so we made it up to that amount ourselves. It was a really successful day.
“We had a really good turnout and the auction went very well, with a couple of our regulars buying a lot of stuff.
“Since we did that they have run similar events at other pubs in the area for the same charity and it is something I would definitely consider doing again.
“Even though it was quite stressful, it was worth it.”
