The winners have been announced in Morpeth’s ‘retail Oscars’.
The Sanderson Arcade Awards were dished out at a ceremony last week to recognise good practice and excellent customer service at the shopping centre.
And there was extra cause for celebration as the arcade prepares to mark its fifth anniversary.
Seven awards were presented, with mother and baby store JoJo Maman Bebe taking the coveted title of Retailer of the Year following a public vote.
Meanwhile, a special Arcade Achievement Award, rewarding an individual’s contribution to the centre over the past five years, was won by Keith Peters of the Jewellers’ Guild.
The other winners were:
l Manager of the Year: Zoe Peake of Fat Face, with Sarah Silcock of the Corbridge Larder highly commended.
l Young Achiever of the Year: Emma Storey of Mountain Warehouse, with Andrew Balfour from Laura Ashley highly commended.
l Customer Service Team of the Year: Hobbs.
l Independent Retailer of the Year: Pinky’s Nails.
l Community Engagement: Marks and Spencer.
The ceremony, which was held at Barluga and sponsored by Cookswell Citroen, featured guest speaker Edward Cooke, Director of Policy and Public Affairs for the British Council of Shopping Centres, and a birthday message for the arcade from Joanna Lumley OBE, who opened it in November 2009.
Centre Manager Medi Parry said: “We have some great businesses at the arcade and it’s nice to be able to reward some of those many stores and individuals who make the arcade the special place it is.”
