Business sees rise in festive sales

SALES were up at a Morpeth business as it enjoyed a happy festive season.

The Original Factory Shop in the Market Place contributed to a strong overall company performance in the five weeks to January 8.

The business enjoyed a 4.2 per cent increase in like-for-like sales on the previous year and an 11 per cent rise in total sales.

Sales of bedroom and bathroom items saw the highest rise, at 26 per cent, but sales in ladieswear, personal care, toys, groceries and pet accessories were also strong.

Due to the milder weather this winter, sales of Wellington’s were down 50 per cent on the previous year, but those of outdoor toys were up 200 per cent, driven by strong demand for children’s scooters.

Morpeth Store Manager Kim Duncan said: “We had a really good Christmas, particularly in women’s fashion and gift items, such as personal care and toys. We saw sales strengthen as December progressed.

“We know our customers love being able to shop locally for the whole family. This Christmas we presented them with our greatest breadth of offer ever.

“Looking forward to 2012, we are more committed than ever to offering our customers fantastic value with quality brands at Factory Shop prices.”
