Chamber changes at top

A NEW leader has been elected for Morpeth’s business group.

The Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade has appointed former Secretary George Williams to take on the role of Chairman.

The election took place at the Annual General Meeting of the group when outgoing Chairman John Beynon stepped down after three years at the helm.

Mr Williams was voted in unanimously and paid tribute to his predecessor.

He said: “It has been a privilege working with John. We have done a lot over the past few years.

“A number of people have commented on the fact that there is not enough communication within the chamber.

“I would say to those people that they are not really paying attention because the communication they are getting now is about 10 times more than they have had in the past.”

Mr Williams said he intends to change the format of meetings, with further details to be announced, and is also working with member Charles Sellers to amend the constitution.

“Charles Sellers has done a tremendous amount of work on the constitution. It was only recently that we realised that some areas need to be looked at again.

“We will bring those back to the chamber in the next couple of months. Things are just not fitting quite as we require them,” he said.

The chamber re-elected Charles Robinson as Vice-Chairman, Charles Sellers as Deputy Vice-Chairman, and Dave Lodge as Treasurer.

Nic Best was appointed Secretary. New committee members are Cynthia Fair, Paul Barker, Bill Lynch and Les Sage, who is returning to the committee after a long association with the chamber.
