Two Morpeth community stalwarts have been honoured by a business group for their tireless efforts at the helm of Fair Day and Golf Day.

A thank you dinner at PepperPot Bistro in Oldgate was recently organised by the Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade for Tony Osborne and Geoff Proudlock. Morpeth Mayor Nic Best was among those in attendance.

Mr Proudlock had been in charge of running the chamber’s Golf Day since he set it up in the 1980s and Mr Osborne has been involved in Fair Day for more than 25 years – he was chairman of the organising committee for 21 of them.

They both decided to step down from the lead role after last year’s respective events.

Chamber spokesman John Beynon said: “We have worked out that in all the time Geoff and Tony were in charge of these events, between £160,000 and £200,000 was raised for our annual community contributions.

“We’re extremely grateful for their service.”
