Entries have opened for the region’s tourism ‘Oscars’.

The North East England Tourism Awards aim to recognise outstanding contribution to the industry, which supports some 54,000 jobs across the region.

Winners will also have the chance to shine nationally in the VisitEngland Excellence Awards, which this year saw seven North-East businesses honoured, including Matfen Hall, which claimed a Gold award for Large Hotel of the Year.

Categories in the regional gongs include best access, bed and breakfast, business tourism, caravan holiday park, hotels, visitor attractions, self-catering holiday, sustainability, taste of England, tourism experience, pub, visitor information provider and event.

To enter the awards scheme, see www.northeast by September 4.
