Expert advice on the menu

EXPERT advice will be offered to the county’s catering businesses in the second Northumberland Food Event.

Last year more than 200 food-related businesses attended the free event to find new ideas and network.

This year it aims to inspire caterers with guest speakers and practical demonstrations from regionally-renowned chefs in the live kitchen theatre.

There will be the chance to meet service support organisations, artisan food manufacturers and national suppliers, and taste their produce, while advice will include tips on making the most of social media and online marketing.

Helen Greer, from The Feathers Inn at Stockfield, will talk about the journey from country inn to Pub of the Year, and Richard Slade of Battlesteads hotel and restaurant in Wark will speak on green tourism and buying locally. Officers from Northumberland County Council will advise on licensing and food safety.

Council Executive Member for Health and Public Protection Anita Romer said: “Whether you are a restaurant, cafe, pub or take-away come along and be inspired at the Northumberland Food Event 2012.”

The event takes place at the Holiday Inn in Seaton Burn on Tuesday, March 6, from 10am to 4pm. Delegates can stay all day, or drop in to sessions.
