SHOP staff in Morpeth have plenty in store over the next few months.

For two teams of workers at Sanderson Arcade are gearing up for a couple of separate charity challenges.

The sky’s the limit for one of the groups, made up of a 12-strong team, as members have signed up to take the plunge in a charity sky-dive at Shotton Airfield, near Durham, on Saturday.

Fund-raisers in the other team of 12 have slightly longer to prepare for their event as they will be pounding the streets in this year’s Great North Run on Sunday, September 15.

All of the volunteers work in stores and businesses in the Morpeth shopping centre, and they are all raising funds for the arcade’s nominated charity for the year, The Sick Children’s Trust.

It provides home-from-home accommodation for families of poorly children in hospital and the arcade staff hope to raise £10,000 for the charity to provide a new playroom at its North East premises in Newcastle.

Sanderson Arcade Manager Medi Parry, who is among those taking on the Great North Run, said: “We had a great response to the sky-dive and Great North Run and we’re delighted to have 24 people in total taking part in the two events.

“We’re determined to reach the target that we’ve set ourselves for The Sick Children’s Trust. We wish the sky-divers all the very best in their challenge and the running team are all in training now ready for September.”

Staff taking part in the events work at Crew Clothing, Handelsbanken, Marks and Spencer, Vision Express, Energie Fitness, JoJo Maman Bebe, Timpson’s, The Wellness Centre, Express Taxis, Central Bean and The Jewellers’ Guild.

The Sick Children’s Trust Campaigns and Appeals Manager Caroline O’Doherty said: “We are delighted to have the backing of Morpeth’s Sanderson Arcade staff, especially now we have launched this appeal we really need all the support we can get to raise the money.

“The team has been doing brilliantly over the last few months with its fund-raising and I am sure that this next challenge will be a great success also.”
