New recruits at a top North East hotel are being given an induction course with a difference.
Along with learning the ropes at Matfen Hall Hotel and Spa, Northumberland, new staff also have to learn a lesson; a history lesson.
And their teacher is the person who knows the historic venue better than anyone else, its owner Sir Hugh Blackett, whose ancestor, Sir Edward, built the Hall.
Sir Hugh, who turned the family home into a multi-award winning hotel in 1997, gives each new staff member a history tour of the building, to ensure they are perfectly placed to answer visitor’s questions.
“I found Sir Hugh’s tour fascinating,” said Leila Reed, Rates and Revenue Manager.
“There’s a real family atmosphere at Matfen Hall and it’s nice to about the people who’ve lived here.”
