Mines dig into training

Mineworkers will be given the chance to rise through the ranks as a regional employer invests in training.

Banks Mining, which runs the Shotton and Brenkley Lane opencast sites near Blagdon, has introduced a new modular training programme for plant operators to broaden their knowledge and expertise through safe and efficient ways of working with new site designs, equipment and techniques.

A full-time trainer has been employed to lead the initiative, and training facilities have been created at the Shotton site. The system includes a management development programme to help staff progress their careers.
