A BUSINESS chief from the former Lynemouth smelter has launched a new venture — but he has not looked far to find his first client.

John McCabe was Corporate Affairs Director of the Rio Tinto Alcan plant and has recently been working as Regional Economic Development Director for the firm to attract new investment to the site.

Now he has set up his own communications business, Round Table Solutions, offering a range of management services and support.

And first to snap up his services is Rio Tinto, which has appointed Mr McCabe’s business to continue the Lynemouth regeneration work.

Mr McCabe said: “This is an exciting new venture and I am particularly pleased Rio Tinto has given me the opportunity to continue the work I’ve started in attracting new investment and jobs to Northumberland and in supporting local communities in the aftermath of the closure of the smelter.

“At an earlier stage in my career I spent five years working for one of the UK’s largest and most successful communications companies outside London. Ever since then it’s been my ambition to establish my own business, drawing on all I have learnt from working with some incredibly talented people along the way.”

Mr McCabe says is he looking forward to the challenge and is undaunted about starting a business in the difficult economic climate.

“During my career I’ve worked in a very wide range of sectors and I’d struggle to think of a communications issue I have not faced,” he said.

“These are difficult times, of course, but I take great inspiration from the hard work and ingenuity of businesses in this region.

“I’m motivated by the prospect of putting my experiences to good use in contributing to our economic development and promoting all that’s best about the North East.”
