Business is warming up nicely for a family-run stove company.
Hancock Stoves and Flues has operated in some form from Coopies Lane Industrial Estate in Morpeth for the past 14 years.
Four years ago, the Hancock family expanded from their core flue supply and repair work to include multi-fuel stoves and now the business is booming.
In fact, the company is doing so well that earlier this month, it moved from rented premises in Coopies Haugh to its own unit in Coopies Way, enabling it to offer a new customer-friendly showroom.
Owner Kathleen Hancock said: “The business is doing quite well so we have expanded. We have got much bigger premises and they are much more customer-friendly, more appropriate for us.
“We hope the move will encourage more people to come in. We are on the main road through the estate now so we get more people passing. We have just been in a few weeks and we have noticed a difference already.
“More and more people are buying stoves now. There seems to be quite a growing trend for people to have wood-burners. Over the past four years, we have seen a steady increase.
“Normally, the summer is quite quiet, but business hasn’t trailed off this year.
“Come September, it usually goes through the roof because everybody wants their stove in for Christmas so hopefully we’ll be even busier soon.
“We have six staff at the moment, but because of the move and increasing business, we are looking to take on possibly another couple of staff in the coming months.”
The showroom is open Tuesday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm, and on Saturdays, from 10am to 4pm.
