A COUNTY food business has won a multitude of awards from a national organisation for its range of scrumptious sausages.
Eight gold accolades were given to Rothbury Family Butchers, which has a shop in Heighley Gate Garden Centre as well as Rothbury, in the BPEX Foodservice Pork Sausage of the Year competition.
The outlets won the prestigious awards for the following bangers: Traditional pork sausage; gluten-free pork, ginger and spring onion sausage; pork, black pudding and chilli sausage; pork, black pudding and spiced apple sausage; extra lean pork, mango, lime and chilli sausage; the hog roast sausage; fennel and tomato chutney pork sausage; and pork with damson chutney sausage.
The contest, which also promotes British Sausage Week (November 4 to 10), celebrates, recognises and rewards the very best sausages served in pubs, restaurants, hotels and canteens across the country.
This year, judges evaluated 230 entries across the competition’s five categories – traditional pork sausage, speciality pork sausage, best export sausage, best innovative pork sausage and best healthy eating sausage.

“The level of entries has been staggering this year and the judges were impressed by the quality and innovation on display.
