A husband-and-wife partnership from Morpeth recently enjoyed a highly successful business trip to the USA.
As partners in Off The Rails Kids Ltd – a not-for-profit enterprise working with challenging teenagers – Graham and Terese Cook were guests of various professional programmes based in Vermont and New Hampshire.
It helps affluent parents in Britain and Europe to navigate their way through the range of information relating to leading-edge treatment centres and specialist schools in America that can improve their child’s behaviour.
Mr Cook said: “We have operated a number of partnership arrangements over the last five years, mainly across Utah and California, and I was approached at a recent European conference with an offer to tour programmes on the east coast of America, which is clearly more accessible.
“Our hosts were ‘high end’ therapeutic wilderness programmes, specialist boarding schools and residential treatment centres who cater for teenagers with often complex issues or addictions.”
“Closer to home, we recently piloted an equine therapy programme in north Northumberland, where some innovative techniques were used to engage with challenging kids.”
“As a result of our trip, we have already agreed some partnership terms and we will be changing our business model to handle better the clear demand for our services here in the UK.”
