Job satisfaction comes in car-loads for a Morpeth man, who has clocked up 30 years of service at the Tyne Tunnels.
Ron Henderson began working as a toll collector at the facility in 1984 and worked his way up to become Tunnel Manager.
And he is not the only member of staff marking the milestone, with five of his colleagues celebrating the same anniversary within a matter of months.
He said: “There is fantastic stability among the team here at TT2, and people have come from all sorts of backgrounds to build careers working on the Tyne Tunnels.
“Personally, I came from the insurance industry and started as a toll collector and have never looked back.
“It says a lot about the job satisfaction here that among only six people, we are clocking up 180 years of service.”
