Shepherds battle it out to be top dogs

Northumberland Sheepdog Trials League held an open trial at Blindburn farm, Harbottle, on Saturday, June 13.

Mark Elliott, of Lazonby, judged 35 dogs working Cheviot sheep over a huge, very difficult hillside course.

Arthur Temple, of Holmrook, was first with Flint, taking 80 out of a possible 90 points, and fifth with Zazoo on 68.

Kerry Watt, of Corbridge, was second with Reba on 78.

Jim Wilson, of Moffat, came third with Jed on 77, and fourth with Ben on 74.

David Henderson, of Allendale, was sixth with Chief on 65.

A Sunday trial at Blindburn for the top 16 competitors from Saturday was held on an even bigger and more demanding course.

Jim Wilson won with Jed, taking 116 out of 140 possible points.

John Foster, of Earlston, was second with Tay on 112.

Arthur Temple came third with Flint on 108, and fifth with Zazoo on 101.

Paul Turnbull, of Rothbury, and Glen were fourth with 105.
