Slight jobless rise in area -one line over to match with lead

The jobs figures for October show that there was a small monthly increase in the number of unemployed people in the Berwick-upon-Tweed constituency.

The number of unemployed claimants was 747, which was 17 higher than the total for September. This represents a rate of 2.1 per cent of the economically active population aged between 16 and 64.

Liberal Democrat campaigner Julie Pörksen said that although the overall trend is good as unemployment in the area has reduced by more than 450 since May 2010, “any increase in unemployment is a concern and the main aim must be to continue to help employers provide work”.
