CONSTRUCTION has started on a new windfarm in Northumberland.
Following the completion of the pre-construction phase on site, which is located near the hamlet of Wingates, civil and electrical works have begun.
They are expected to be finished by the end of October and delivery of the six turbines, with a tip height of up to 110m, is scheduled to take place between early December and early February 2013.
The Infinis windfarm will have a total capacity of 15MW and it is set to be in operation by March 31, 2013.
Many residents in the local area were against the planning application – 75 wrote letters and 141 signed a petition. A total of 57 people were in favour, although campaigners said most of them were from outside the area.
The company has committed to provide a community benefit fund of up to £30,000 per year and £750,000 during the life of the windfarm for local investment.
Final confirmation of the management of the fund is to be agreed with community groups and authorities.
