Businesses under attack for bloom snub

BIG businesses have come under attack for failing to support Morpeth’s Bloom entry.

A huge community effort goes into the floral displays every year, and last week Britain In Bloom judges said they were particularly impressed by the involvement.

But at the Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade, which is one of the main partners in the bid, there was criticism that some national stores show a lack of support.

Member Charles Sellers said: “The thing that disappoints me about our efforts every year is that the local traders and local community support the town up to the hilt, but it is absolutely amazing, and quite frankly disgusting, that some nationals will not support the efforts of Morpeth.

“The chamber does an awful lot of good in the town and it raises funds to pay for baskets for the benefit of the community, but the nationals won’t support it.

“It is a very sensitive issue, but we need to address it.”

Mr Sellers suggested the chamber works with other partners to try to get more national stores involved.
