Busy time for club on the move

Morpeth Soroptimists have had a busy few weeks.

The club is twinned with the Windsor, Slough and Maidenhead Soroptimists, which was celebrating its 50th Anniversary and invited the Morpeth club to share in the celebrations. Six club members travelled to Windsor on March 24 for the weekend.

On the Saturday a trip had been organised to visit Eton College and the retired Master who showed us round was full of enthusiasm and the history of the school. A splendid gala evening followed in a renovated College Chapel.

On Sunday we attended St George’s Chapel Windsor for Matins. Lord Ridley had died a few days earlier and he was mentioned in the ceremony and a wreath had been placed on his ancestral seat as he was a Knight of the Garter. It seemed appropriate that we were there as for the last two years we have held our Charter Lunch in the Clock Room at Blagdon.

At the club’s annual general meeting in April, and on the last evening of her year as club President, Trish Walker was delighted to hand over a cheque for £200 to Amy Syron-Mallenby, Information Worker for the Alzheimer’s Society in Northumberland, following a very successful car boot sale fundraiser at Kirkley Hall.

Ms Walker said: “We were very fortunate to have a lot of very good items to sell and when people realised that we were selling for such a worthwhile local cause people were generous in supporting us.

“This is the second donation that the club has made to Northumberland Alzheimer Society following an art event in the summer.”
