A charity golf day is being held at Ponteland.

The venue has kindly donated the use of its course on Tuesday, April 19, to support club member Stewart Blair, whose wife had the degenerative neurological condition.

Stewart is also a member of the Rotary Club of Ponteland, which is organising the event – its 25th charity golf day to date.

He said: “This year we decided to support Parkinson’s UK as a worthy charity. In addition, the club wants to step up to support people living with this debilitating condition throughout the community.

“All funds raised will help Parkinson’s UK to continue its superb work in supporting people affected by Parkinson’s and fund its essential research into better treatments and a cure.”

The event begins at 11.30am with registration and a soup and sandwich lunch. At 1pm, the competition kicks off with an 18 hole, shotgun start tee off.

Along the way, there are fun chances to win bonus prizes worth £25 for ‘Straightest Drive’ and ‘Closest to Pin’.

The day ends with a three-course meal in the clubhouse overlooking the course. There will also be a raffle and prize-giving ceremony – first place wins £200, second place wins £150 and third place wins £100.

Entry is in teams of four with mixed ability, age and gender very welcome. The entry cost is £350 per team.

Abby Robinson, North East and Cumbria regional fund-raiser at Parkinson’s UK, said: “This is going to be a fantastic day of golf at one of the region’s best and most beautiful golf courses.

“I’d like to invite any keen golfers to sign up, as it’s a great way of marking Parkinson’s Awareness Week and raising funds for a worthy cause.

“I’d like to thank Stewart, Ponteland Golf Club and the Rotary Club of Ponteland for all their hard work in planning the event.

“As the UK’s Parkinson’s support and research charity, we’re leading the work to find a cure – and we’re closer than ever. But our work is dependent on donations.”
